Some of them were important buildings of social interest, that were part of renovated modernist projects in Caracas around the 40s and 50s. In Fontainebleau, I work with celebrated city fountains that were part of major urban projects. In these images the fountains, originally ornamental, are turned into large water monoliths that are more important that the surrounding buildings.
I deal with architectural development and the fragility of the wishes and dreams that drive it. I try to play with fragments of ideas about big development projects of Modernist Venezuela, that actually is totally corrupt and decadent.
To prepare this series, I worked with old pictures of places in Caracas, that show buildings and their fountains when they were newly built. The original pictures are in the collective imagination of the Venezuelan people. In this, in a digital way, I enlarge the water like a geiser.
